Download Norton Recovery Tool ISO to Create a Norton Rescue CD

Download Norton Recovery Tool ISO to Create a Norton Rescue CD

Just like many popular commercial antivirus company such as Avira, BitDefender, Kaspersky and F-Secure, Norton also has its own Rescue CD called Norton Recovery Tool where you can use it to boot up a computer (whether Windows is bootable or not) to recover a badly virus infected PC. Sometimes a computer is so badly infected by virus, your computer would be too slow to do anything or even worst, can't boot up at all. A rescue disc would be the best way to scan your computer for virus because the virus will not be active and won't interfere the antivirus program from doing its job. It can delete any virus found and hopefully lets you boot in to Windows again.

The latest Norton Antivirus 2009, Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton SystemWorks v12 comes with Norton Recovery Tool. If you purchased any of the 3 Norton products above from Symantec online store, the receipt will have an additional information that says "In case you need to recover your system from heavy infections click here to download the Norton Recovery Tool".

Norton Recovery Tool provides on-demand scanning and removal or repair of viruses, spyware and other security risks. This tool is not intended to be a replacement for continuous, real-time protection from the latest security risks. Do take note that Norton Recovery Tool does not detect rootkits. The minimum system requirements to run Norton Recovery Tool is a computer with 1.4 GHZ CPU and 1GB of physical RAM.

In order to use the Norton Recovery Tool to scan your computer for viruses, you'll need to download the ISO from the link at the end of this article and burn the ISO file to a CD. Then follow the few simple steps below.
In order to use the Norton Recovery Tool to scan your computer for viruses, you'll need to download the ISO from the link at the end of this article and burn the ISO file to a CD. Then follow the few simple steps below.

1. Insert the Norton Recovery Tool CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Exit all programs and restart your computer.
3. When you see the message "Press any key to boot the computer from CD or DVD", press Enter.
4. In the Norton Recovery Tool window, select your language and click OK.
5. Enter your Norton 2009 Product Key, and click I Agree to accept the License Agreement.
6. Click Start Scan.
7. Follow the prompts.
8. After the scan is completed, remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive and restart your computer.
Norton Recovery Tool uses Symantec virus definitions to scan your computer for the latest security risks. Virus definitions are automatically updated when your computer is connected to the Internet with a connection that is "always on". Wireless connection won't work and DHCP server must be active to provide IP address. Most of the routers nowadays are configured to automatically provide internal IP address to a computer connected to it.

Note: Norton Recovery Tool is ONLY free for those who has a product key for Norton Antivirus 2008/2009, Norton Internet Security 2008/2009 and Norton SystemWorks 12.

Important Security Tips

Important Security Tips

1. Use anti-virus software:
Viruses spread rapidly and can damage or destroy your computer. New ones appear almost daily. It's critical that you install and update anti-virus software regularly. Use the program to scan all the files on your system once a week, deleting the infected ones.

2. Be wary of e-mail attachments:
A virus can hide in an attachment. Opening it will unleash the virus. Don't open an attachment from anyone you don't know. Even if you do know the sender, an infected attachment may have been surreptitiously sent from an infected machine. The safest thing to do is to scan the attachment with anti-virus software before you open it.

3. Install a firewall on your computer:
A firewall is a software program that blocks unauthorized access to your computer. This is particularly important if you have a broadband connection, such as DSL or a cable modem. Windows XP has a built-in firewall, so make sure it's activated if you use that operating system. If not, we recommend ZoneAlarm. You can download it for free for personal use from Zone Labs. Or better to use open source software "Comodo Firewall".

4. Protect your passwords:
Many online services, such as banking, brokerage and e-mail require the use of passwords. A secure password is the first line of defense against cyber-snoops. Use a different password for each account, don't divulge them to anyone and change them periodically.

5. Update security patches for your operating system and web browser:
You've probably read about security "holes" that turn up periodically. Once they are discovered, you can download fixes. For Windows users, an easy way to update your system is click on the Windows Update option under the Start menu.

6. Back up your data:
Make copies of your files in case they become corrupted, your system fails or your computer is damaged or stolen. Get in the habit of doing this regularly, at least once a week.

What is a Virus and how do I know if I have one?

When your computer gets infected with a virus it can be a devastating experience. A virus can consume your precious computer files and even damage your computer hardware. Is this worth ignoring? I don’t think so! Anything you can do to avoid a computer virus has to be a good thing and is well worth spending your time on. We all know prevention is better than a cure so I am going to share my top 10 tips on how to protect yourself against computer viruses.
  1. The first thing that I recommend is to research and become knowledgeable about viruses. How can you protect your computer from viruses if you don’t even know what they are. Here are some previous tutorials I have written about viruses. SeeWhat is a Virus and how do I know if I have one? and  What’s the difference between a virus, spyware, Malware, and adware?
  2. Arm yourself with the best Antivirus software to suit your needs. Not everyone can get away with using free antivirus software because it depends what you do on your computer. It depends on factors such as if you download files or not, if you open email attachments, and if you surf suspicious websites. See my reviews for the best Virus Removal Software. Lets face it, if you do not have protection against viruses installed on your computer, you will without a doubt, get a virus within the first hour of surfing the internet. It is that easy.
  3. Having a great Antivirus program installed on your computer to protect you against viruses is great, however if you do not regularly update the virus definitions, then the program is useless. New viruses are produced daily and this is why we constantly have to update the viruses definitions and stay ahead of the bad guys.
  4. When surfing the internet avoid websites that contain illegal software downloads, sexual references, free screensavers, cracks or serials, etc. I am sure you get the picture. If you go near these sites you are immediately asking for trouble.
  5. Always update Windows. These updates contain security updates that will help in your fight against viruses. If you do not perform regular Windows updates you are leaving your computer in a vulnerable state.
  6. Be careful when opening emails. There are obvious emails that you know you shouldn’t open, however what about the ones you get from people you know? What if your friend has a virus and it is spreading itself through emails? An email cannot be important enough to risk getting a virus. Delete the email and send a fresh email to your friend asking them if they actually did send you the email.
  7. If you are really serious about protecting your computer you can change your email settings and receive text emails only. You can also disable the ability to open email attachments. Virus travel in HTML enabled emails and file attachments. They cannot travel in text email messages.
  8. Do not use peer to peer (p2p) file sharing programs. These include programs such as Limewire, Bearshare, Gnutella, Morpheus, Torrents, etc. These program let you download files from other computer users connected to their program network. You have no way of knowing what you are actually downloading until it is on your computer. Even if you share files from a cd from a friend, it may have a virus.
  9. Do not download files from websites. Again, there is no way of knowing what you are downloading. The file can appear to be named like the file you want, however it could be anything. Most of the time, this is how a virus is unleashed, it usually seems like a harmless, familiar object.
  10. Make sure you have a firewall enabled on your computer. Windows comes with an inbuilt firewall or you can use a third party firewall program like Zone Alarm. Either way, make sure the firewall is on…To check the Windows Firewall go to the security settings in your control panel.
If you are careful and are serious about protecting your computer from invading viruses, it is possible to stay safe. My top 10 tips will help you keep your computer running smoothly, and virus free.

Virus Removal Software

The word ‘virus’ is the most talked about word in the computer world, along with it’s partner, ‘spyware’. They are both equally disliked by every computer user, especially if you are unlucky enough to have one. Even if your computer hasn’t been infected with a virus, most problems are usually blamed on them.
The sure fire way to avoid any confusion is to ensure that your computer has proper virus removal software installed. By ‘proper’ I mean if you are going to buy any software it should be virus removal software. Get all your other programs and software for free but do not skimp on your antivirus program.

How do I choose the right antivirus removal software for my computer?

Good Question! Every computer is different and each computer user requires a different amount of protection. For example if your computer does not even have an internet connection and you do not share files, then I do not see a need for you to install any virus removal software. On the other hand, if your computer connects to the internet for even a second, you need protection.
The level of protection varies. If you download files and programs from the internet then you should be protecting your computer with the best anti virus software available. That does not mean you have to spend hundreds of dollars though. If you read through the reviews below you will be able to choose the right antivirus removal software for you.

What is virus removal software? Is it the same as antivirus software?

Virus removal software and antivirus software are the same thing. Each software developer calls their particular program a different thing. In the end, all antivirus software is meant to do the same thing, alert you about viruses, quarantine them, or remove them. Many antivirus software also now include complete internet security. This means it will include an antivirus program along with other security features such as a internet firewall.

Tips4pc Top 4 Antivirus software programs for 2009/2010

I am just going to give you my honest opinion and review on my top 4 antivirus programs. The reason I have chosen these particular programs is I have actually used them and tested them for myself. Each banner leads to more information about the antivirus program in question. If you do buy a program after pressing one of these banner Tips4pc will get a commission as we are affiliates for all programs. At least 3 of the banners offer either a free program or a free software trial before you buy. This is great if you are short on cash at the moment.

AVG Antivirus

AVG Internet Security - Tough on threats.
Most people know about AVG because there is a free version available to download that does a really good job. I would gladly install the free version on AVG on a persons computer if they were not willing to buy an antivirus program. I have tested the free version for about two years and it did the job, although I did eventually end up with a virus and had to reformat my computer. This was no acceptable in my case and therefore I had to upgrade to the paid version. If you are just using the internet to check your emails and buy stuff on Ebay then you should be fine with this program. AVG Free includes an email scanner.

Avast Antivirus Professional

 avast! 4 Professional Edition
This is what I use now. I actually downloaded the free 60 trial and then ended up buying the program. It was absolutely amazing. It would update itself, and other than that you would not even know it existed, until the warnings came through… WOW.. This program picks up everything! Even if I put a disc in the disc drive it would find a virus on that..Even though the disc is old and no other virus checkers had picked it up before.. You do not have to take my word for it because you can download the trial version and try it. It has no limitations but expires after 60 days. So you get to try the full program. Not like some programs that scan your computer for viruses and then tell you to buy the program to get rid of them.

Norton Antivirus

Symantec's Norton AntiVirus 2010
If you buy a new computer you will most likely have a trial version of Norton Antivirus installed for you. I did use this program for countless years, however it was a resource hog. That means it slowed your computer down considerably, however I believe that the new 2010 version has improved greatly. This is one of the best antivirus programs out there but is not completely user friendly. This is why I recommend this program to the experienced computer user.
Save 10% on Symantec Multi-tier Protection 11.0
United States – Symantec Multi-tier Protection 11. Offer Expires 01/10/10

ZoneAlarm

 ZoneAlarm Extreme Security
I started using ZoneAlarm when it was just a plain old firewall program. It was the absolute best. Now it incorporates a complete internet security suite including antivirus. Of course it is and always was a great program but I unfortunately found something else in the mean time. This is one of the best security programs you can install on your computer, however it is not for the newbie computer user.
